Using the complete suspension/axle unit from a car is a great idea, it makes life a lot easier if you haven't got to start making one off parts like wishbones, handbrakes, hub carriers etc.
The only downsides are it'll probably be heavier than you'd like and they rarely look that good. (they're very heavy but chrome plated older jag IRS are the notable exception when it comes to looks IMHO)
