Clubs in Mid Wales/Shropshire

Post by gbtriker »

Hi All
I'm looking for clubs that are either all trike or happy for trikes to ride with them. I'm based in the top bit of Mid Wales and not far from Shropshire. Distance to places from where I live are Wrexham (1hr), Shrewsbury (1hr), Oswestry (1hr), Dolgellau (1hr), Chester (1hr10mins), Welshpool (30 mins), Newtown (1hr)

Thanks all

Hi GBT, I am picking up a Rewaco lowrider this friday 2/9/24 after a long break. I tried to start a Trike club up many years ago in Telford but because they were mostly unreliable machines it was more a case of a cuppa in someones garage watching repairs lol.

Well I got the trike and gave it a service and we covered 200 miles since to iron out any niggles, had to replace fuel pump (VW 1200) as it was leaking into the sump.
Maybe we could organise a meet in Wales next year, maybe Aberystwyth (100 mile from me).
Will give everyone time to prepare after the winter...

Use a electric one, much better

Have been contemplating converting to electric pump but it only has the 1200 in it and was hoping in the long run dropping a 15/1600 in it for better hill climbing ability.

Since sought advice from guy who sells fuel pumps for the single carb VW and it makes sense not to fit one as it is only a single bowl and copes quite easily.
may start another post as there doesnt seem to much interest on a trike run here.

If the trike sits a few weeks before being used, the fuel evaporates out of the carb.
Then when you try to start it with a vw pump you have to wind the engine over for around 15 seconds or longer to get fuel into the carb.
With electric pump it's around 3 seconds as soon as you turn on the ignition. Saves wear on the starter and ring gear

Yea i get that bro, my trike is my main everyday transport (its not wrapped up over winter). It was the same when i had a mini auto1275 trike, a 1.0lt goldwing trike and an Apache silver quad, all used through winter. So you can see fuel dont get the chance to evaporate with me 😊
The co-pilot is made of weaker stuff and has a Vellfire for work, so will go to the Welsh coast with her after winter, maybe to abba where i believe most bikers meet up, not much room at Barmouth except by the harbour.
