Change in helmet laws ???

Post by miniondave »

Talking to a chap from the IAM yesterday and he reckons that there has been a change in the laws requiring the wearing of helmets. According to him we now all have to wear a helmet.

Just had a search online for information but haven't found anything.

Anyone else heard about this or is he, as I suspect, talking out of his posterior ?

Not in the UK.
There a move for them to become compulsory in Northern Ireland, but not sure if it ever went through.

As I thought, he was talking out of his bottie.
I was thinking of doing an IAM course for the cheaper insurance but they cannot make up their minds whether trikes come under Advanced Motorists or Advanced Motorcyclists.

If his advice about the helmets were the best they can do then I think I will give them a miss.

I always ride with a helmet on... if people wanna be stoopid and go 100 on the freeway weaving in and out traffic with no helmet than that is their issue...

Dave you should give that a miss. I am on a BMW forum and a good few are ex plod and instructors. They are all IAM and the insurance companies take no notice of that. Most put up the price because IAM riders go fast most of the time.
