HS4 2005 altinator over charging

Evening all
Just a quick question and help hopefully

My HS4 2005 altinator is kicking out around 18 volts on the clock, I presume the voltage regulator maybe faulty but I haven't found anything that look like the vw regulator or where it might be located,

I've put another engine in and it was charging at 14v before so not sure what could be wrong, its running OK all lights work, the body is off so I have plenty to look at

The only place I can see where it might be is on the drop down panel under the fals tank but all the bits on it just look like relays

Any help would be appreciated

Lots of alternators have a built in regulator, have done for years. You can get alternators tested, there's probably somewhere local to you can do it.

its inside the alternator and comes as a brush pack

Mine failed and it was not hard to replace and cheaper than a complete alternator

Same as mine, easy to replace. Make sure to clean the brass com rings that the brushes rub on with very fine emery cloth or wet and dry
